Lapps navigate the snow with wooden skis.

our ancient earth
Over the past 5,000 years, the ski's development has had a significant positive impact on society. In contrast to today, early skiers utilised them for work and transportation, and they were crucial in both combat and hunting. They were built of wood and weren't intended for speed; instead, they were used to keep the traveller on top of the snow while using walking sticks to maintain balance.
Since circa 3000 BCE, when the Lapps from Sapmi (a region comprising portions of modern-day Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia) started to use skis often, hunters have used them to pursue animals in ice-covered terrain. It is unclear who created skiing, though. The oldest ski still in existence, which dates to about 3000 BCE, was found in Kalvträsk, northern Sweden, in 1924. It is slightly longer and wider than current skis at 80 inches (204 cm) length and 6 inches (15.5 cm) wide. With rock sculptures in Russia around the White Sea and Lake Onega believed to be more than 5,000 years old, the oldest indirect evidence for the usage of skis in ancient civilizations may go much further back in time. However, the most well-known prehistoric rock carvings of skiers, complete with animal masks and long skis, are found in Rdy, Norway.Skis in good condition have also been discovered in bogs in Finland and Sweden. The oldest ski, a Norwegian name derived from an Old Norse term meaning "stick of wood," existed before to these and had a significantly different appearance from its contemporary counterpart. Large animal bones were utilised to make it, and leather strips were used to fasten it to the boot.
